Ignore Bitter Losers, Spain Branch Elections Was Free, Fair And Transparent - Spain Election Committee Chairman

The Chairman of the NPP Spain Branch Election Committee, Mr. Kwabena Frimpong, has dismissed reports alleging that the recently held NPP Spain Branch Executives Election was marred by irregularities, describing such claims as the actions of “bitter losers” who are attempting to discredit a credible electoral process.

His comments follow a publication by Kessben Online under the headline, “NPP Spain Branch Election marred as 7 Chapter Chairs boycott polls, demand nullification.” According to Mr. Frimpong, the publication does not reflect the true events surrounding the election and should be disregarded by party members and the general public.

He maintained that the election, held on Saturday, 25th July 2026 in Logroño, Spain, was conducted in a free, fair, transparent and credible manner in strict accordance with the Party’s election guidelines.

Mr. Frimpong explained that immediately after the alleged boycott letter surfaced, the Election Committee issued a comprehensive press statement detailing the numerous steps taken to ensure an open and inclusive electoral process. These measures included the publication of the electoral album, correction of identified errors, establishment of an official communication platform for all aspirants, extension of proxy voting deadlines, and continuous engagement with stakeholders throughout the process.

He further noted that the Election Committee remained available at all times to address concerns raised by members, including responding to calls and complaints late into the night, sometimes as late as 1:00 a.m. and 2:00 a.m. Ghana time, in order to ensure that no eligible delegate was disenfranchised.

Addressing claims that several Chapter Executives boycotted the election, Mr. Frimpong pointed out that the allegations were contradicted by events on the ground. He cited an audio statement by the NPP Barcelona Women’s Organiser, Maame Mansah, who indicated that no meeting had been held among Chapter Executives to obtain a collective decision on a boycott. She therefore participated in the election and also voted on behalf of another executive through a duly approved proxy.

According to the Committee Chairman, although the NPP Constitution requires only one-third of eligible delegates to constitute a quorum for a Delegates Conference, the combined number of delegates who voted physically and through valid proxy exceeded two-thirds of the electoral register, demonstrating overwhelming participation and confidence in the electoral process.

Mr. Frimpong also clarified issues surrounding the Girona Chapter, explaining that when concerns were raised about members who had allegedly been unable to vote during the Chapter elections, the Committee immediately requested the names of the affected members for verification. Only eight names were submitted despite earlier claims that more members had been affected. Following consultations with the Party Headquarters IT Directorate, the Committee secured an additional 30 minutes to enable those members to vote. However, none of the listed individuals took advantage of the extended period.

He stressed that these actions clearly demonstrated the Committee’s commitment to fairness, transparency and inclusiveness throughout the electoral process.

“The decision by a few individuals to boycott the election cannot invalidate a properly constituted electoral process that complied with all approved guidelines and timelines,” Mr. Frimpong stated.

He reiterated that every stakeholder was given equal opportunity to raise objections, seek clarifications and have concerns addressed before the election. The Committee, he said, remained committed to ensuring that every eligible delegate had the opportunity to participate.

Mr. Frimpong therefore urged party members and the general public to disregard reports suggesting that the election lacked credibility, insisting that the process reflected the democratic values of the New Patriotic Party and successfully produced a legitimate leadership for the Spain Branch.

He concluded by congratulating all successful candidates and commending delegates, aspirants and members for their peaceful conduct throughout the electoral process, urging them to unite and work together for the continued growth and success of the NPP Spain Branch.

NPP SPAIN BRANCH ELECTION COMES ON AS SCHEDULED ON TOMORROW SATURDAY 25TH JULY, 2026

Statement from the NPP Spain Branch Election Committee to All Members and Aspirants

The NPP Spain Branch Election Committee has taken note of a letter titled “Notice of Boycott of the NPP Spain Branch Executives Election Scheduled for 25 July 2026”, in which some Chapter Chairpersons and others indicated their intention not to participate in the election.

The Election Committee wishes to assure all members, aspirants and the National Headquarters that the NPP Spain Branch Executives Election shall proceed as scheduled on Saturday, 25th July 2026, in Logroño, Spain.

Since the commencement of the electoral process, the Committee has conducted its work in a transparent, impartial and inclusive manner while providing equal opportunity for all stakeholders to participate and raise concerns.

For the records:

  • 14th July 2026: The vetting process was successfully concluded.
  • 15th July 2026: The Vetting Report was released and circulated to all aspirants and members. On the same day, an official WhatsApp platform comprising all aspirants and members of the Election Committee was created to ensure timely dissemination of information and facilitate continuous engagement. Since then, all official updates have been shared openly on the platform.
  • 16th July 2026: The Committee opened the submission of proxy applications for members who would be unable to be physically present on Election Day. Members were requested to formally nominate persons to vote on their behalf, and several valid proxy applications were duly received.
  • 17th July 2026: The album of elected Chapter Executives was circulated to all aspirants with an invitation to report any discrepancies for correction. A few concerns, mainly involving names and details, were received and promptly rectified. On the same day, the official Notice of Poll was published and circulated to all members and aspirants.
  • 23rd July 2026: In order not to disenfranchise any eligible member, the Committee extended the deadline for proxy submissions to Friday, 24th July 2026 at 4:00 p.m., after which the final proxy list was to be published for the information of all aspirants and members.
  • Also on 23rd July 2026, the final electoral album, incorporating both elected Chapter Executives and Branch Executives, was circulated once again with a clear invitation for anyone with concerns to immediately notify the Committee for redress before its official publication on 24th July 2026.

Furthermore, prior to the publication of the final album on 24th July 2026, the Committee Chairman received a telephone call from the Chairman of the Girona Chapter, Mr. Kyeremeh Alexander, who stated that only seven (7) out of thirty (30) members had voted during their Chapter election. The Committee immediately requested that the names of members who had been unable to vote be submitted for verification. However, only eight (8) names were submitted.

Subsequently, the Girona Chapter Secretary also contacted the Committee indicating that some members intended to leave the Chapter because they had not voted. In good faith and in consultation with the Party Headquarters IT Directorate, the Committee secured an additional thirty (30) minutes to enable those members to cast their votes. Once again, the Committee requested the list of affected members. The same eight (8) names previously submitted by the Chairman were presented. Despite this additional opportunity, none of the listed individuals cast their votes.

These actions clearly demonstrate that the Election Committee has consistently acted in good faith and has gone the extra mile to ensure that no eligible member is disenfranchised.

The issues cited in the boycott letter—including allegations of lack of transparency, voter register concerns, inadequate consultation and unfair treatment—had already been addressed through the Committee’s continuous engagement, publication of electoral materials, correction of identified errors, extension of deadlines, and provision of opportunities for objections and appeals.

The Committee therefore finds it difficult to reconcile the contents of the boycott letter with the extensive opportunities that were made available to all stakeholders throughout the process even at odd hours of 1am and 2am Ghana time, I made time to listen to concerns of members of NPP Spain. Had there been genuine outstanding concerns, the Committee remained readily available to convene meetings to discuss and resolve them. At no point was such an avenue exhausted before the decision to announce a boycott.

Every member has the democratic right to participate or decline participation in the election. However, the individual or collective decision of some persons to boycott the exercise cannot halt or invalidate a duly constituted electoral process that has been conducted in accordance with the approved guidelines and timelines.

The Election Committee therefore assures all members that the NPP Spain Branch Executives Election will be held as scheduled on Saturday, 25th July 2026. Necessary arrangements have been completed, and the Committee remains committed to delivering an election that is free, fair, transparent and credible.

We encourage all delegates, aspirants and members to remain peaceful, uphold the values of the New Patriotic Party and participate constructively in strengthening our democracy.
