Gunmen Abduct Three Siblings Conveying Mother’s Corpse From Abuja To Benue
Three siblings travelling from Abuja to Benue State to bury their late mother have reportedly been abducted by suspected gunmen along the Ogobia–Otukpo Road.
The incident reportedly occurred in the early hours of Saturday while the family was conveying the remains of their mother from Abuja to Iklenyi community in Okpokwu Local Government Area of Benue State for burial.
The incident was brought to public attention by citizen journalist, Meddy Olotu, who shared details of the attack in a video circulated on social media.
According to Olotu, the family experienced a mechanical fault during the journey, leaving them stranded for several hours before resuming the trip at about 2:00 a.m.
“They left Abuja with the corpse of their mother for burial in Iklenyi, but even by 2:00 a.m., they were still on the road because their vehicle had broken down. Despite that, they continued the journey,” he said.
Olotu alleged that shortly after resuming their journey, armed kidnappers intercepted the vehicle between Ogobia and Otukpo, abducted the three siblings and reportedly made away with the corpse of their deceased mother.
Describing the incident as heartbreaking, he urged Nigerians to exercise extreme caution while travelling, particularly at night, citing the worsening security situation on major roads across the country.
“If you’re using Nigerian roads at this time, please be very careful. Even travelling during the day is no longer safe, let alone at night. If your journey is not absolutely necessary, stay where you are,” he cautioned.
He also condemned the alleged actions of the kidnappers, saying the incident underscored the growing brutality of criminal gangs operating on Nigerian highways.
“It is sad that these criminals no longer have sympathy or conscience. Imagine kidnapping people conveying the corpse of their mother and even taking away the body,” he lamented.
As of the time of filing this report, security authorities had yet to issue an official statement on the reported abduction, while the whereabouts of the victims and the corpse remained unknown.
