Ghana have been ranked 24th in the final standings of the 2026 FIFA World Cup following their return to the global stage and a Round of 32 appearance at the tournament.

The Black Stars’ final position was confirmed after the conclusion of the expanded 48-team competition, with Spain emerging as world champions ahead of runners-up Argentina. England finished third, while France claimed fourth place.

Ghana’s 24th-place finish places them ahead of several established football nations, including Ecuador (25th), South Africa (26th), Sweden (27th), Austria (28th), Algeria (30th) and Senegal (31st).

The West African giants secured qualification for the knockout phase after a competitive Group L campaign that saw them face England, Croatia and Panama.

Ghana opened their World Cup journey with a narrow 1-0 victory over Panama in Toronto, with Caleb Yirenkyi scoring a late winner to hand the Black Stars a crucial three points. They followed that result with a disciplined goalless draw against England before suffering a 2-1 defeat to Croatia in their final group match.

Despite finishing third in the group, Ghana progressed to the Round of 32 as one of the best third-placed teams under the new World Cup format.

Their tournament came to an end after a 1-0 defeat to Colombia, with Jhon Arias scoring the decisive goal in Kansas City. The result denied Ghana a place in the last 16 but marked a significant improvement from their group-stage elimination at the 2022 FIFA World Cup in Qatar.

The Black Stars’ campaign was also notable for the emergence of young talents, including Yirenkyi, while experienced figures such as captain Jordan Ayew and midfielder Thomas Partey provided leadership throughout the tournament.
