GH¢1bn fund: You now have the opportunity to go back and continue development — Mahama tells Bawku fund committee

President John Dramani Mahama has expressed confidence in the five-member Bawku Revitalisation Committee tasked with supporting the rebuilding of infrastructure and restoring economic activity in the conflict-affected area.

The committee is expected to help accelerate development in Bawku and surrounding communities while creating the conditions for residents and businesses to rebuild their livelihoods and resume productive activities.

Its establishment forms part of the government’s broader efforts to restore normalcy, address infrastructure deficits and support communities affected by prolonged instability.

The committee is chaired by Finance Minister Dr Cassiel Ato Forson. Its other members are Bawku Central MP Mahama Ayariga, Tamapani Chief Cletus Abugre, Upper East Regional Minister Donatus Akamugri Atanga and Garu MP Thomas Anaba.

Speaking at the committee’s inauguration on Wednesday, August 26, President Mahama said the government’s focus extended beyond rebuilding physical infrastructure to creating an environment that would enable residents to restore their livelihoods.

“Now we have the opportunity to go back and continue the development so that the people of the area will benefit from all the projects that we have been doing so that Bawku will get its fair share of the national cake. The revitalisation fund will go to the provision of infrastructure and any other areas that the committee deems fit.

“And we expect that many districts within the Bawku area will benefit from the revitalisation fund. I have absolute confidence in the membership of the committee and I know that they will handle this assignment with the usual integrity and efficiency that they have shown in their public service over the years,” he stated.
