GES Halts All SHS Graduation Ceremonies in Accra — Schools Ordered to Withdraw Notices Immediately
The Ghana Education Service (GES) has directed all senior high schools, senior high technical schools and STEM schools in the Greater Accra Region to immediately suspend all planned graduation ceremonies.
In a directive dated 26 June 2026, the Greater Accra Regional Directorate said the move follows the Ministry of Education’s nationwide ban on graduation ceremonies, prom nights, leavers’ celebrations and similar activities in pre‑tertiary institutions — both public and private.
According to the Directorate, the policy aims to promote discipline, equity and child protection, while preventing undue financial pressure on parents and guardians.
School authorities have been instructed to halt all preparations for such events without delay. The directive further states that no proprietor, teacher, Parent Association, School Management Committee (SMC) or stakeholder should organise, sponsor or permit any of these activities under the auspices of a school until further notice.
Schools are required to:
- Communicate the suspension to parents, students, staff and stakeholders
- Withdraw all publicity materials and announcements
- Submit compliance reports to the Regional Director by Wednesday, 8 July 2026
The Regional Directorate warned that failure to comply will attract appropriate administrative sanctions in line with GES regulations.
