Turkish champions Galatasaray are set to strengthen their midfield after reaching an agreement with Burnley for the transfer of Lesley Ugochukwu.

The deal, reportedly valued at just under €30 million, is awaiting the completion of final paperwork before the midfielder is officially unveiled by the Istanbul club.

Once confirmed, the move will rank among Galatasaray’s most expensive acquisitions of the current transfer window.

Ugochukwu joined Burnley only last summer after leaving Chelsea on a long-term contract, but his stay in England appears set to end after just one season.

The 22-year-old is expected to begin a new chapter in Turkey as Galatasaray continue to reinforce their squad ahead of another demanding campaign.

The Nigerian-born midfielder spent part of last season on loan at Southampton, where he gained valuable Premier League experience and further developed his game against top-flight opposition.

Before moving to England, Ugochukwu emerged through the youth ranks at French side Rennes. His impressive displays for the Ligue 1 outfit quickly attracted interest from several clubs before Chelsea secured his signature in 2023.

Galatasaray believe the versatile midfielder will add energy, defensive stability and quality in possession as the club prepares to defend its Turkish Super Lig title.

His arrival is also expected to strengthen Okan Buruk’s options for the UEFA Champions League, where the club hopes to make a strong impact.

Supporters will now await the official announcement, with Ugochukwu expected to complete his medical and sign his contract in the coming days before linking up with his new teammates for pre-season preparations.
