Galatasaray Complete Loan Move for Lesley Ugochukwu

By Okiki Oluwasegun

Turkish champions Galatasaray have strengthened their squad with the signing of midfielder Lesley Ugochukwu, who joins the club on a season-long loan from English side Burnley.

The Istanbul-based club confirmed the transfer through an official announcement, revealing that the agreement also includes an option to make the move permanent at the end of the loan spell if both parties are satisfied with the arrangement.

Ugochukwu, who is of Nigerian descent, only arrived at Burnley last summer after completing a transfer from Premier League outfit Chelsea.

Despite spending just one season with the Clarets, the midfielder impressed with his physical presence and ability to control the tempo of matches.

During the 2025/26 campaign, the 22-year-old featured regularly for Burnley, making 35 league appearances.

He also contributed offensively, scoring three goals and providing two assists while helping the club in midfield.

Before moving to England, Ugochukwu developed through the ranks at French club Stade Rennes, where he established himself as one of the country’s promising young midfielders.

He made 60 senior appearances for the Ligue 1 side before beginning his journey in English football.

The midfielder also gained valuable Premier League experience during a loan spell with Southampton in the 2024/25 season, featuring 31 times for the Saints.

Earlier in his career, he made 15 appearances for Chelsea across all competitions before seeking more regular playing opportunities.

Galatasaray will hope Ugochukwu’s energy, defensive qualities and composure on the ball add depth to their midfield as they prepare to defend their Turkish Super Lig title and compete in European competitions during the upcoming season.

The move represents another important step in the youngster’s career as he looks to continue his development at one of Turkey’s biggest clubs.
