The Department of State Services (DSS) has raised fresh security concerns in Nigeria’s North-East, warning of an alleged plot by Boko Haram insurgents to launch coordinated attacks and abduct prominent government officials, traditional rulers, pastors and residents in parts of Adamawa and Borno states.

The warning was contained in an intelligence communication dated July 27, 2026, addressed to the Brigade Commander of the 23 Armoured Brigade of the Nigerian Army in Yola, Adamawa State.

The intelligence report, referenced 0.211/3827 and signed on behalf of the Adamawa State Director of Security by Ben Osifor, indicated that the planned attacks are expected to target Michika Local Government Area in Adamawa State and Askira Uba Local Government Area in Borno State.

According to the DSS, the planned operations are linked to the reported collapse of a ceasefire arrangement between Boko Haram and the governments of the two states.

The report stated that intelligence available to the agency revealed that the insurgents were preparing to carry out “major operations” in the affected areas.

“Intelligence has revealed plans by Boko Haram terrorists to carry out major operations around Michika LGA, and Askira Uba LGA in Adamawa and Borno States, respectively to register the collapse of ceasefire agreement with the state governments,” the document stated.

The DSS further warned that the terrorists intend to target high-profile individuals during the planned operations, including government officials, councillors, district heads, religious leaders and other residents.

It specifically disclosed that the district head of Michika and his son were among those allegedly marked for abduction.

“The terrorists planned to abduct high government officials, councilors, district heads, pastors and locals residing in the LGAs. Furthermore, the terrorist elements are targeting to kidnap district head of Michika alongside his son, who stays in his residence,” the report said.

The agency also disclosed that the insurgents had already deployed surveillance teams to monitor the affected communities ahead of the planned attacks.

“Already, the terrorists have deployed surveillance team in preparation for the planned attack,” the intelligence report added.

In response to the threat, the DSS urged the Nigerian Army to intensify security operations in collaboration with local forest guards and hunters to thwart the planned attacks.

“In view therefore, it is advised that troops in collaboration with forest guards and hunters beef up security measures around the LGA, with a view to preventing the planned operations by the terrorists,” the agency advised.

The intelligence alert has since been forwarded to the Nigerian Army for necessary action as security agencies heighten vigilance over renewed Boko Haram activities in parts of the North-East.
