Childhood dream come true - Real reach Diomande agreement with RB Leipzig

THU, 06 AUG 2026

Real Madrid have reached an agreement with RB Leipzig to sign Yan Diomande, with the teenager, who has signed a seven-year deal at the Bernabeu, admitting that the move is a “childhood dream come true”.

Diomande is the La Liga club’s fifth summer signing, after the arrivals of Bernardo Silva, Ibrahima Konate, Denzel Dumfries and Marc Cucurella.

The Ivory Coast international, who had also been linked to European champions Paris Saint-Germain and Premier League outfit Liverpool, is widely reported to have cost Real up to £120 million.

“Moving to Real Madrid is a childhood dream come true for me,” Diomande told RB Leipzig’s website. “I am all the more grateful to the management at RB Leipzig for making this move possible despite my current contract.

“Today, a new chapter begins. Saying goodbye is never easy, but I am looking forward to what lies ahead and will always be incredibly proud.

“Looking back on my time in Leipzig, this club will always hold a special place in my heart, and I will continue to follow RB’s progress closely.

“Who knows? Maybe we’ll see each other again soon in the Champions League. Thank you for everything.”

Diomande joined RB Leipzig last summer after half a season at Leganes.

The 19-year-old netted 13 goals and registered 10 assists in his debut campaign in Germany, while he impressed in Ivory Coast’s World Cup campaign.

On the move, Leipzig’s managing director for sport, Marcel Schafer, said: “From day one, Yan impressed us with his fearless approach, his willingness to learn and the courage he showed on the pitch.

“In next to no time, his pace, dribbling ability and eye for goal saw him establish himself at the highest level.

”We’re proud that Yan’s performances for RB Leipzig attracted so much attention internationally. It shows how much young, hungry players with the potential to improve can develop at our club.

Diomande will provide competition on Real’s right flank, a problem position since Rodrygo ruptured the ACL in his right knee six months ago.

Federico Valverde, Jude Bellingham, Arda Guler and 18-year-old Franco Mastantuono have all featured on the right wing at various points.

The teenager could also replace Vinicius Junior, a target for Arsenal, if the Brazilian leaves Real this month.
