Cameroon Crowned African Champions After Thrashing Malawi 3-0
Cameroon have secured their first-ever Women’s Africa Cup of Nations title after producing a commanding 3-0 victory over Malawi in the 2026 final in Rabat, Morocco.
The Indomitable Lionesses settled the contest with a ruthless performance before the interval, finding the net three times and leaving Malawi with a mountain to climb in the second half.
Marie Ngah Manga set Cameroon on their way before Naomi Eto extended the advantage with an impressive finish. Ngah Manga struck again before half-time to complete her brace and give her side a comfortable three-goal cushion.
Malawi attempted to respond after the restart, but Cameroon remained organised and protected their advantage until the final whistle.
The result delivered a historic moment for a team that had previously come close to winning the continental championship.
Cameroon had reached the WAFCON final three times before, finishing as runners-up on each occasion. Their last appearance in the title match came in 2016, when Nigeria edged them 1-0.
The latest triumph was particularly significant for veteran Gabrielle Onguene, who was also involved in that 2016 final.
The 37-year-old entered the game during stoppage time, making her eighth WAFCON appearance.
For Malawi, reaching the final was already a landmark achievement, as it was their first appearance in the competition’s championship match.
Cameroon’s victory now adds a historic chapter to their women’s football story and confirms them as Africa’s newest continental champions.
