A Brussels Airlines flight travelling from Accra to Lomé made a safe return to the Accra International Airport (AIA) on Monday evening after developing a technical fault shortly after take‑off.

According to the Ghana Civil Aviation Authority (GCAA), Flight SN278 departed Accra at 6:06 p.m., but the crew detected a technical issue mid‑flight and, as a precaution, elected to return to Accra. The aircraft landed safely at 6:18 p.m., just 12 minutes after departure.

In a statement issued on Monday, July 20, the GCAA commended the flight crew for strictly adhering to established aviation safety procedures, stressing that the safety of passengers and crew remains its highest priority.

The Authority said the technical fault is now under investigation by Brussels Airlines, in line with international aviation protocols and under GCAA oversight.

Following the incident, Brussels Airlines cancelled Flight SN278, with affected passengers receiving assistance in accordance with the Ghana Civil Aviation (Economic) Directives, 2019 (Part 2 – Consumer Protection).

The GCAA assured the travelling public that Ghana’s aviation safety and security oversight system remains robust and reliable.
