BRÜHM honours Ghana’s football legends, celebrating national heroes and Somotex Ghana’s 40 years of trust
Ghana’s football history took centre stage on Friday evening as leading home appliance brand BRÜHM brought together football legends, government officials, business leaders and sports stakeholders for the grand finale of the BRÜHM Honours Legends campaign—a national initiative dedicated to celebrating Ghana’s football heroes while they are still alive to receive the nation’s gratitude.
Held at the Alisa Hotel in North Ridge, the elegant dinner honoured five of Ghana’s most revered football legends—Rev. Osei Kofi, Ibrahim Sunday, Mohammed Ahmed “Polo”, Nii Odartey Lamptey and Daniel Quaye—whose achievements have shaped more than five decades of Ghanaian football history and inspired generations of fans.
Representing different eras of Ghana’s football journey, the five legends have collectively contributed to some of the nation’s greatest sporting achievements, from Africa Cup of Nations triumphs and continental club success to FIFA youth championships and Ghana’s first appearance at the FIFA World Cup in Germany in 2006.
The dinner marked the culmination of a nationwide campaign that combined documentary storytelling, digital engagement and public conversations to preserve the stories of Ghana’s football icons while reconnecting younger generations with the individuals behind some of the country’s most cherished sporting memories. Each legend received a commemorative citation, a BRÜHM television and a BRÜHM refrigerator in recognition of their outstanding contribution to Ghanaian football and national pride.
The event attracted an impressive gathering of distinguished guests, including Shivesh Srivastava, General Manager and Business Head of Somotex Ghana Limited; Roshanak Taheri, Head of Marketing for BRÜHM Global; Veronica Commey, Deputy Director-General of the National Sports Authority; representatives of the Ministry of Sports and Recreation; Dr. Joseph Obeng, former President of the Ghana Union of Traders’ Associations (GUTA) and a member of the Governing Council of the African Peer Review Mechanism (APRM); Somotex business partners; media personalities; and invited guests from Ghana’s corporate and sporting communities.
The evening featured documentary screenings, cultural performances by the Ayitah Cultural Agency, a musical serenade by Rama Black, heartfelt tributes and standing ovations as guests reflected on the extraordinary contributions of the football legends. Many described the occasion as a timely reminder of the importance of celebrating national heroes during their lifetime.
Speaking at the event, Roshanak Taheri, Head of Marketing for BRÜHM Global, said the campaign was intentionally designed to go beyond conventional sports marketing by celebrating the people whose sacrifices laid the foundation for Ghana’s football success.
“Our campaign was never really about an ending. It was about remembering where something began. We wanted to celebrate the men whose achievements created memories that generations of Ghanaians still cherish today. At BRÜHM, we believe the home is where those memories live, and our responsibility goes beyond providing appliances—we want to celebrate the stories, people and moments that bring families together.”
She noted that some of Ghana’s most memorable football moments were experienced not only inside stadiums but also in living rooms and neighbourhood viewing centres, where families gathered around their televisions to celebrate victories, debate unforgettable matches and create lifelong memories.
Adding a local perspective, Awurakua Antwi, Marketing Manager for BRÜHM Ghana and Somotex Ghana Limited, said the campaign reflected the brand’s long-standing relationship with Ghanaian families.
“For decades, BRÜHM has been part of Ghanaian homes, where families have gathered around their televisions to celebrate victories, relive unforgettable matches, and create memories that last a lifetime. BRÜHM Honours Legends is our way of celebrating the heroes behind those memories and ensuring their stories continue to inspire future generations.”
Delivering the keynote goodwill message, Veronica Commey, Deputy Director-General of the National Sports Authority, commended BRÜHM for recognising sporting heroes while they are still able to witness the nation’s appreciation.
“As someone who believes strongly in giving people their flowers while they can still smell them, I commend BRÜHM for making this possible.”
She encouraged more organisations to emulate the initiative, describing it as a meaningful contribution to preserving Ghana’s sporting heritage and inspiring younger generations to appreciate the individuals whose achievements united the nation.
Speaking on behalf of Somotex Ghana Limited, Shivesh Srivastava, General Manager and Business Head, reaffirmed the company’s belief that businesses have a responsibility beyond commerce.
“For forty years, Ghanaian families have welcomed BRÜHM into their homes. As a brand that has grown alongside the people of Ghana, we believe it is important not only to improve everyday life through our products but also to celebrate the people whose achievements have brought pride and inspiration to our nation.
BRÜHM Honours Legends reflects that commitment.”
Beyond celebrating football excellence, the campaign underscored BRÜHM’s broader commitment to preserving stories that strengthen national identity and connect generations through shared memories.
As the BRÜHM Honours Legends campaign concludes, its message extends far beyond football. It is a reminder that nations become stronger when they intentionally preserve the stories of those whose sacrifices shaped their future, and that the greatest tribute society can offer its heroes is to honour them while they are still here to receive it.
For BRÜHM, the initiative represents more than a campaign. It reflects the brand’s commitment to being present not only in Ghanaian homes through its products, but also in the memories, traditions and stories that make those homes meaningful.
