Boniface, Tella Shine as Bayer Leverkusen Begin Pre-Season with Dominant Victory

By Okiki Oluwasegun

Bayer Leverkusen kicked off preparations for the 2026/27 season in emphatic fashion with a commanding 7-0 victory over Sportfreunde Baumberg in a pre-season friendly, as Nigerian forwards Victor Boniface and Nathan Tella both found the back of the net.

Leverkusen controlled the contest from the opening whistle, creating numerous scoring opportunities and showcasing the attacking quality expected from the Bundesliga side.

Their dominance was rewarded early, with new signing Afonso Moreira making an immediate impact by scoring twice within the opening half-hour of the match.

Christian Kofane added another goal before the interval, giving Leverkusen a comfortable advantage heading into the second half.

After the restart, Boniface took centre stage by scoring twice in quick succession, underlining his determination to make a strong impression ahead of the new campaign.

Midfielder Robert Andrich also got on the scoresheet before fellow Super Eagles star Nathan Tella completed the rout with Leverkusen’s seventh goal.

The convincing performance will boost confidence within the squad as the club continues its preparations for another demanding domestic and European season.

For Boniface, the brace marks a positive step after an injury-disrupted spell that affected his rhythm and consistency.

The Nigerian striker will be eager to maintain his fitness and rediscover the form that made him one of Leverkusen’s most dangerous attackers.

Tella’s goal also serves as an encouraging sign for both player and club, with the winger expected to play an important role in the months ahead. Leverkusen will now look to build on this impressive display as they continue their pre-season schedule before the competitive fixtures begin.
