Be Contented, Don’t Be Beggarly—First Lady Tinubu Urges Youths

By Damilare Adeleye

Nigeria’s First Lady, Oluremi Tinubu, has urged Nigerian youths to shun a culture of entitlement and excessive dependence on others, advising them to cultivate contentment, resilience and self-reliance in their pursuit of success.

Tinubu gave the advice on Friday when she received the leadership of the All Progressives Congress National Youth Wing at the State House in Abuja, where she also presented nine buses to the party’s youth leaders to support their activities.

The First Lady, according to a statement by her Senior Special Assistant on Media, Busola Kukoyi, said young Nigerians must understand that success requires patience, diligence, integrity and hard work rather than a desire for instant gratification.

“God always know our needs and that is what the young people do not know, they are always in a hurry,” she said.

Tinubu added, “And I am teaching you how to learn contentment and not be beggarly.”

She urged the youths to develop what she described as an “Eagles mentality”, stressing that resilience and the ability to rise above adversity were essential to achieving their aspirations.

“You have to have the Eagles mentality. When the Eagle see the storm, he laughs at it and sees how he can fly above it. That is what you should all do. You should always look for your own path and not because that person has it, I want it,” she said.

The First Lady also cautioned young people against measuring their progress against the achievements of others, urging them instead to identify and pursue their individual paths.

Tinubu commended the APC youth leadership for working together to strengthen the party, particularly at the grassroots, and urged them to sustain their efforts in promoting the achievements of President Bola Tinubu’s administration.

She charged the youth leaders to embrace their responsibility as representatives of the ruling party and remain committed to building a hopeful future.

“As one of the arms of the ruling party, with a mandate to carry the banner of the Renewed Hope Agenda of the President Bola Ahmed Tinubu administration, its members and leaders must show resilience and deep commitment to a tomorrow built on hope,” she said.

As part of her support for the APC youth wing, Tinubu presented nine buses to the National Youth Leader, Deputy National Youth Leader, zonal youth leaders and the Federal Capital Territory leadership.

The buses, she said, would support the youth wing’s party activities and community service initiatives.
