Awuku Laughs Off EOCO Arrest Story: “I Was Voting, Not in Custody”

Member of Parliament for Akuapem North, Sammi Awuku, has dismissed reports suggesting he was arrested by the Economic and Organised Crime Office (EOCO) on Saturday, August 15.

In a video shared on social media on Sunday, August 16, the MP was seen in Kumasi alongside NDC sympathiser Appiah Stadium — a public appearance he says makes the rumour impossible.

Responding to the claims, Mr Awuku questioned how he could have been arrested when he was actively participating in the NPP’s regional elections on the same day.

“Claims that I was arrested on Saturday are completely false. Yesterday we had our regional elections, and today, Sunday, I am here in Kumasi,” he said.

Reports had circulated that EOCO had detained the former National Lottery Authority (NLA) boss over alleged financial irregularities linked to his tenure. His supposed arrest was said to be part of ongoing investigations into transactions at the NLA.

However, his public appearance and direct rebuttal have contradicted the claims, casting doubt on the reports of his alleged detention.
