Former All Progressives Congress (APC) National Chairman, Dr. Umar Abdullahi Ganduje , has dismissed the 2027 presidential ambitions of opposition candidates Peter Obi and Atiku Abubakar , asserting they lack the grassroots structure and regional popularity to challenge President Bola Ahmed Tinubu. Ganduje argued that a lack of strategic presence will prevent opposition candidates from gaining significant traction in the upcoming election.

Emphasizing the decisive role of northern voters, Ganduje maintained that the region remains firmly behind the incumbent administration and predicted that opposition forces cannot mobilize enough support to challenge President Tinubu. Consequently, he expressed absolute confidence in the security of the administration’s position ahead of the next electoral cycle.

The former APC chairman also raised concerns over the growing number of political parties in the country. He called on the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to raise the bar for party registration.

He argued that only political parties with functional structures, clear ideologies and broad national reach should be recognised by the electoral body.

He emphasized that the immense political capital and established networks of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu within the region create an insurmountable barrier for opposition parties attempting to gain substantial traction. By projecting absolute confidence in the APC’s regional dominance, Ganduje effectively downplayed the ongoing coalition efforts of the opposition, framing their early maneuvers as insufficient to disrupt the political status quo in the next electoral cycle.
