The Archbishop of Onitsha, His Grace, Most Rev Valerian Okeke has administered sacrament of confirmation to 1335 candidates during his 11th Pastoral visit to Sacred Heart Parish Odoakpu Onitsha.

The prelate in his homily urged catholics and Christians not to only profess love but practice charity which is the greatest commandments. ‘ Love is caring for one another. It is demonstrated by practically helping people in need. Don’t just say I love or God loves you, show that love’.

The Parish donated 200 bags of cement for the construction ongoing at the Shanahan University Onitsha which the Archbishop stated that it was designed to be a ‘Skill Oriented University’ and a meeting arena of faith and Science.

The Parish Priest, Rev. Fr. Hyginus Zikora eulogized the Archbishop for making out time to visit Sacred Heart Parish Odoakpu saying that the Pastoral visit would build the faith of the young catholic candidates who were administered sacrament of confirmation.

“The visit is an encouragement and will boost the faith of the parishioners as we hold on to the Pastoral blessings.I urge the candidates to bear the fruit of the holy Spirit, let us see it starting from this parish.

“For the 200 bags of cement donated to Shanahan University, it is our collective project within the Diocese. Our children will also gain admission into the university to further their education,” said Fr. Zikora.

According to the Vice Chairman Parish Council, Mr. Festus Mmadunatu, I am elated that our Archbishop visited our parish. We donated the 200 bags of cement for the construction at the Shanahan University because a good child would always support his father’s project and vision.

‘Education is the bedrock for future generations. Education is required, if we desire a better future for the South East.

For those 1335 candidates who were administered the sacrament of confirmation, they should embrace God firmly.

“They should ignore the worldly people who claim that Christianity is a scam. Christianity is not scam. Without Christianity or Catholic Church that came to us in the South East, many of us may have been dead by now. It is the handwork of devil and enemies of South Easterners that brainwash our youths into believing that Christianity is a scam. That notion is false, youths should embrace Christ Jesus.

Secondly, the confirmed should begin to practice true agape love. The only language of love is for people/Christians to show or demonstrate love to one another.

Moreso , the Anambra State House of Assembly Member representing Onitsha South II under the NDC platform, Hon Barr Jude Umennajiego stated: ” for us Catholics, Confirmation means pouring the Holy Spirit on human beings. It will bring awakening to the spirituality of the candidates. Also, abundant blessings for all parishioners and parish follow every Pastoral visit. Let the candidates live out their confirmation oaths”.
