2027: Medical and Health Workers Endorse Gov. Nwifuru, Hold Prayer Rally for Peaceful Elections in Ebonyi
The Medical and Health Workers Union of Nigeria (MHWUN), Ebonyi state chapter has endorsed the State Governor, Chief Francis Nwifuru for second term in the 2027 general election
The Union made the adoption during a joint prayer rally held in their state secretariat, Ebonyi state on Tuesday.
Delivering his address, the state chairman of the union, Comrade Kingsley Igwe emphasized that the prayer rally was to forestall any form of violence, political instability and civil unrest in the state.
He noted that the endorsement was part of the resolutions of the body to appreciate the achievements of Governor Nwifuru in the health sector.
According to Igwe: “the Medical and Health Workers Union of Nigeria (MHWUN has taken a definite to support and vote for Governor Francis Nwifuru in the 2027 general election”.
“We gather not in conflict, but in communion turning our heartbeats into prayers as we assemble for this prayer rally. We stand in the gap for every home, every community, and every citizen in Ebonyi state”.
“As political activities intensify ahead of the upcoming elections, we commit the political landscape of our state into God’s hands. We pray against any form of violence, political instability, or civil unrest. May the spirit of sportsmanship, wisdom, and peace guide all political actors and citizens alike, ensuring that the peace of Ebonyi state remains unshaken before, during, and after the polls”.
Igwe also said that Governor Nwifuru has significantly enhanced healthcare delivery, transformed human capacity, and boosted the morale of health workers and civil servants across the state.
He enlisted that the strengthening of the Ebonyi State Health Insurance Agency (EBHSIA) through increased funding, facility upgrades, and enhanced operational efficiency to ensure affordable healthcare for all were some of the achievements of the Nwifuru’s administration.
“Comprehensive rehabilitation, equipping and modernization of General Hospitals across all 13 Local government Areas; full implementation and consistent payment of the N90,000 new minimum wage to Ebonyi state workers; recruitment, onboarding and strategic deployment of qualified medical and healthcare professionals to tackle manpower shortages in health facilities statewide”.
However, the Union appealed to the Governor to review and implement the CONHESS salary structure, and the enforcement of the Court of Appeal judgement regarding the unionisation of primary Healthcare workers across the 13 LGAs and 64 Development Centers in the state.
Igwe further reaffirmed their unwavering commitment to delivering compassionate and high-quality healthcare services to the people of the state.
A former chairman of the Nigeria Labour Congress, Comrade Ikechukwu Nwafor added that Nwifuru’s administration has substantially prioritized workers’ welfare in the state.
He said that the governor has gradually recovered the lost values of the state, adding that the only way to reciprocate Nwifuru’s kind gestures was to massively support his government and re-election in 2027.
The Head of Service, Dr. Rita Mary Okoro, who was represented by the Permanent Secretary, Establishments, Dr isioma Arunne, commended the union for the industrial harmony in the state, assuring that there would be full implementation of the CONHESS salary structure and allowances to medical and health workers in the state.
