Team Ghana captain Joseph Paul Amoah has secured his place in the semi-finals of the men’s 200m at the 2026 Commonwealth Games after an impressive performance in the heats.

The Ghanaian sprint star clocked 20.36 seconds to advance to the next stage, matching the time recorded by Jamaica’s Christopher Taylor, who qualified alongside him from the same heat.

Amoah, Ghana’s national record holder in the 200m, produced a composed run, taking control of the race around the bend before powering through the finish line to comfortably secure progression.

The 29-year-old enters the semi-finals with confidence as he continues his pursuit of another Commonwealth Games medal. Amoah claimed bronze in the men’s 200m at the 2022 Commonwealth Games in Birmingham and is aiming to improve on that achievement in Glasgow.

The Team Ghana captain will return to action on Thursday for the semi-final, where he will battle for a place in the final and continue to spearhead Ghana’s sprint hopes at the Games.
