Lebarty American Leadership Academy Births In Benin …As Edo State Commissioners Receive New York City Council Awards

A new educational institution aimed at expanding the frontiers of  qualitative and affordable education  was on July 27, 2024, formally opened  in Benin City, Edo state, Nigeria. Christened  Lebarty American Leadership Academy, the establishment of the school is premised on the philosophy that “good  education is the foundation of a better future” and also, ‘an investment in knowledge pays the best  interest “.
 
At the brief but impressive  ceremony to herald the birth of the school, its  proprietor, Mr Okenfe Aigbe Lebarty said the school  ensconced  in rural  Idumwowina community  in the outskirt of Benin  City, is his family’s modest way of giving back to  Edo state, the land of their birth.
 
He said every member of the Aigbe  Lebarty family  contributed in one way or the   other to make the vision of establishing the school a reality. “The fact that we are all gathered here together is a testament of the unity in the family” he said.
 
Mr Okenfe said the  school would seek to inculcate the virtues of leadership and academic excellence  in the students while  providing conducive learning environment. ” The  Aigbe Lebarty Foundation will partner strongly with the Lebarty American Leadership Academy by providing scholarship grants to indigent students.
We also intend to link the school with some notable schools in the United States of America for durable academic and staff exchange programmes. This is one the facilities that  sets the Lebarty American  Leadership apart from other schools here in Edo state” , the proprietor stated.
 
The royal father at the event, Chief Henry Osato Bazuaye, the Aiwerioghene of Benin Kingdom said the establishment of the school  is a noble  venture worthy of commendation.
He urged the  school’s authorities to strive to maintain high academic standards and  espouse those qualities  that make America the leader of the  free world.
 
Engr. Marvellous Godwins Omobayo, the deputy governor of Edo State advocated the need for everybody to be involved in the business of providing quality education for Nigerian children and wards.
The deputy governor who was represented at the event by the Senior Admin Officer in his office, Mrs. Ganiyat Uwaifo, noted that the government of Governor Godwin Obaseki has since inception in 2016, placed priority on providing quality education by investing huge resources in transforming the sector.
According to him, despite the economic challenges besetting our great country, Nigeria, it is heartwarming to see management of this great Academy put up this structure for conducive teaching and learning.
“Like they say, education is everybody’s business. While quality education, as being offered by your Academy, can only be provided by well-meaning individuals and organizations whose passion is to positively impact society and humanity.

“No doubt, Lebarty American Leadership Academy is a unique citadel of learning where children can learn for exemplary leadership, sound ethical and moral values, as well as fundamental principles of life.

“As a responsible government, the present administration under the purposeful leadership of Governor Godwin Obaseki since assumption of office in 2016, has invested huge resources in transforming the education sector as well as training and retraining of teaching staff in the educational system,” he added.
Meanwhile, the Proprietor of Lebarty American Leadership Academy, Mr. Okenfe Aigbe Lebarty and his brother Dr. Nosa Aigbe lebarty, Chief Executive officer, Lebarty Community Health Foundation, both based in the United States of America earlier presented souvenirs and awards from New York City Council to the Edo State Commissioner for Education, Hon Joan Osa Oviawe, the Commissioner for Communication and Orientation, Hon. Chris Nehikhare, and Commissioner for Youth and Humanitarian Affairs, Hon. Dada Abubakar  for the outstanding work of the Edo State Government in  the last eight years.
The City Council Citation signed by Council Member, Selvena N. Brooks-Peters,  states, ” Whereas a great city is only as great as those persons who give examplary service to their communities, whether through unique personal achievement in their professional or other endeavors or simply  through a lifetime of philantropy and community service and  hoping such service, which is truly the lifeblood of the community  and the city , so often goes unrecognized  and unrewarded; now, therefore be it that as  a duly elected member of the New York City Council, I recognize that in you we have an outstanding citizen, one of whom is worthy of the esteem of both our community and the great City of New York.”
Among other activities of the Aigbe Lebarty brothers was a visit to the Esama of Benin, Chief Gabriel Osawaru Igbinedion who prayed for them before them.
