Jordan Ayew set for Blackburn Rovers move as free agent after Leicester exit

Blackburn Rovers are close to signing Ghana captain Jordan Ayew on a free transfer as manager Tony Mowbray looks to bolster his attacking options, according to reports in the UK.

The 34-year-old forward has been without a club since leaving Leicester City following their Championship relegation at the end of last season and is now in talks over a move to Ewood Park.

Ayew made 42 Championship appearances for Leicester during the 2025-26 campaign, scoring six goals and providing three assists. He started 24 league matches.

Blackburn have turned to the free-agent market after failing to complete some transfer targets before the window closed, with injuries exposing a lack of depth in Mowbray’s squad.

The experienced Ghanaian can play as a centre-forward or on either wing, offering the Championship side greater flexibility in attack.

Ayew brings more than a decade of experience in English football, having previously represented Crystal Palace, Swansea City and Aston Villa in the Premier League after beginning his European career with French club Marseille.

Blackburn have endured an uneven start to the new season, collecting four points from their opening two matches before taking just one point from their next three fixtures.

Their 2-1 defeat by Preston North End on Saturday has increased the pressure to strengthen the squad as they look to improve their early-season form.
