Accra Floods linked to Deforestation & Odaw Basin degradation
Floods have been happening in Accra every year’s raining season since the late 90’s and till today, there has been no solution or attempted fix to the situation. Despite public outcries, deaths and significant loss of properties from the Ghanaian populace each year, Accra floods keep happening.
Many say it is due to poor planning of the city and others say that the dirt in the choked gutters cause it. However, ace journalist Bright Simons begs to differ with well researched facts.
Some people say that because Accra’s seasonal floods are perennial, one cannot link them to any specific environmental trends. Not correct. Increasingly, the flood dynamics are linked to deforestation & Odaw Basin degradation. The very same basin protected by Achimota Forest!
