Nigeria: Kidnappers raped a victim to death in Ekiti and demanded two virgin girls as ransom for her corpse.

In a shocking escalation of brutality gripping rural Nigeria, kidnappers in Ekamarun community, Ajoni Local Government Area of Ekiti State, raped a middle-aged woman to death, then demanded ransom not for her life but for the return of her corpse.

The armed men, who have terrorized six communities including Itapaji, Iyemero, Oke-Ako, Irele, Ijowa, and Ipao for years, cut off access to water, hospitals, and major roads, leaving residents isolated and vulnerable. After abducting the woman in late February 2026, the kidnappers contacted her family and villagers, insisting on ₦1.5 million in cash, Canadian Loud cannabis, cocaine, the synthetic drug Mkpuru Mmiri (also known as ICE or methamphetamine), and cartons of beer to release her body for a proper burial.

Desperate locals pooled resources, substituting cash for the unattainable drugs, and sent four brave men to deliver the payment. Instead of freedom, the emissaries were seized and taken hostage. The kidnappers then escalated their depraved demands, now requiring two virgin girls in addition to further payments to spare the lives of the four captured men.

Local reports, verified by Afenifere, the prominent Yoruba socio-cultural organization, describe the siege as ongoing, with gunmen moving freely and residents warning of potential genocide if federal authorities fail to intervene decisively. Community leaders have pleaded directly with President Bola Tinubu for urgent military action, criticizing the silence of their elected representatives who offer only condolences.
