A Celestial Church of Christ evangelist, Abidemi Odukoya, and his wife, Adenike, have reportedly died in separate circumstances following an alleged domestic altercation at their residence in the Akinode/Ibogun community, Ogun State. It was learnt that the incident occurred in the early hours of Monday, August 25, after the couple allegedly engaged in a domestic dispute that escalated into a physical confrontation. The altercation reportedly left Adenike unconscious and injured, while her husband allegedly fled the residence. A former Chairman of the Community Development Association, Adejimi Olawumi, said in a video shared by Arole TV on Wednesday that he was alerted by residents’ cries for help and subsequently found the woman lying in a pool of blood.

A tragic domestic dispute in Ogun State has resulted in the separate deaths of Celestial Church of Christ evangelist Abidemi Odukoya and his wife, Adenike . The couple reportedly lost their lives following a violent altercation at their family residence located in the Akinode/Ibogun community. According to local reports, the fatal incident occurred during the early hours of Monday, August 25, 2026, when a heated domestic argument rapidly escalated into a severe physical confrontation between the spouses.

The physical altercation left Adenike severely injured and unconscious on the floor, after which her husband allegedly fled the premises to evade the immediate aftermath of the clash. The alarm was raised when the couple’s son alerted nearby residents to the crisis, prompting members of the neighborhood to rush to the property. The community efforts to provide emergency medical transport were unfortunately delayed due to a lack of immediate vehicular options at that hour of the night.

Providing firsthand context to the discovery, Adejimi Olawumi, a former Chairman of the local Community Development Association (CDA), revealed in an online video broadcast by Arole TV that he was awoken around 1:00 AM by neighbors shouting. Upon entering the building, Olawumi and other responders discovered the helpless woman lying unresponsive in a pool of blood. The Ogun State Police Command has since stepped into the matter, confirming that a full-scale investigation is underway to determine the exact circumstances surrounding both deaths.

Olawumi said, “It was around 1am when I heard my neighbours shouting, ‘thief, thief.’ On my way out, I saw Daniel. I asked him what happened, and he said it was his mum and dad. Then I went to call my neighbours to come out.

“Immediately, we got inside the house and saw the wife in a pool of blood. At that time, there were no vehicles to take her to the hospital.

“The son said he did not see what happened between his mum and dad because he was in the other room. So, we started calling people together.”

Olawumi said members of the CDA subsequently noticed that Odukoya was missing and began searching for him.

According to him, they later learnt that the cleric had been hit by a vehicle in the Ifo area of the state.

He said, “When we saw that we did not see the husband, everyone in the CDA came out to look for him everywhere. We called our area chairman to tell him about the incident.

“Later, we heard that Mr Abidemi had been hit by a car in Ifo. The police took him to the hospital, and we confirmed that he was the one. The CDA then started working on how to bring his remains home.

“We have never heard or seen something like this happen before. We only know that they fight sometimes and settle it among themselves.”

Adding a disturbing layer to the tragedy, a video circulating online features the late evangelist’s younger sister shedding light on the couple’s history. According to her testimony, the fatal altercation was not an isolated incident. She revealed that the husband and wife had been trapped in a toxic cycle of frequent, intense disagreements long before the final, deadly clash took place.

The sister further disclosed that the domestic turmoil had previously escalated to the point of external intervention earlier in the year. Around April, the couple had visited her home to seek counsel following a separate violent dispute. She added that the previous matter had become severe enough to involve law enforcement, noting that the conflict was temporarily resolved at a police station before unraveling into the recent fatal encounter.

She said, “I have been hearing that they have been fighting for a while now. Around April, they came to my house. He explained everything about how he and his wife fought, and that it was at the police station they settled it.

“I only told them to be patient with each other because it is not right for a husband and wife to fight against each other. They had been fighting for a very long time, and people helped them settle it. And now we just heard that the husband and wife are dead.”

The deceased evangelist’s sister further explained that the extended family only learned about the tragic development after one of the siblings received an urgent phone call. Following the devastating news, immediate arrangements were coordinated by family members to handle the final disposition of the couple’s remains. In accordance with these quick arrangements, the wife was reportedly buried on the very day of the incident, while the evangelist, Abidemi Odukoya , was laid to rest on Wednesday, September 2.

The final religious rites for the church leader were also captured on camera. In separate video footage obtained by journalists, fellow Christian clerics were seen performing formal burial rites over Odukoya’s remains at an undisclosed location. Despite these swift burials, the precise sequence of events and exact medical or physical causes leading up to both of their deaths remained heavily clouded in mystery at the time of the initial press findings.

Official law enforcement channels have since validated the ongoing crisis within the community. When contacted for an official update, the Deputy Spokesperson for the Ogun State Police Command, Opeyemi Oluborode , confirmed that the incident had indeed occurred and was being logged. Local authorities are continuing their preliminary inquiries to piece together the unanswered questions surrounding the tragic double fatality.
