Ghana midfielder Majeed Ashimeru has ended his five-year spell with Belgian club Anderlecht after both parties agreed to terminate his contract by mutual consent.

The 28-year-old was due to enter the final year of his contract, which was originally scheduled to run until the summer of 2027.

Anderlecht confirmed on Wednesday that the agreement had been ended early, bringing Ashimeru’s time at the Brussels club to a close.

The Belgian side said the midfielder had not been part of its sporting plans for some time and that his departure would give him the opportunity to pursue the next stage of his career.

Ashimeru initially joined Anderlecht on loan from Austrian club Red Bull Salzburg in January 2021 before completing a permanent transfer later that year.

He made 129 appearances for Anderlecht, scoring nine goals and providing six assists during his time with the club.

However, his spell in Belgium was disrupted by recurring injury problems, while increased competition for places further reduced his opportunities in his later seasons.

During the 2025-26 campaign, Ashimeru spent time on loan at Belgian side RAAL La Louvière, where he made nine league appearances.

Before that move, Anderlecht had also transferred him to the club’s RSCA Futures setup after informing him in 2025 that he was no longer part of the first-team plans.

His departure leaves Ashimeru without a club as he searches for a new challenge and looks to revive his career.

The midfielder began his development at Ghanaian club WAFA before moving to Europe, where he gained experience with Salzburg and other clubs on loan.

He has also represented Ghana at senior international level, adding to a career that has included spells in both Austria and Belgium.

Ashimeru will now assess his options as he looks for a new club where he can regain regular playing time and rediscover his best form.
