The National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Prof Nentawe Yilwatda, has claimed that more than 10 million Nigerians have received N75,000 each through the Federal Government’s conditional cash transfer programme.

Yilwatda said the beneficiaries were mostly vulnerable Nigerians who do not have access to mobile phones, television and social media platforms, making their experiences largely absent from public conversations about the government’s interventions.

The APC chairman made the claim on Saturday while responding to questions from journalists shortly after the party’s three-day National Executive Council retreat in Maiduguri, Borno State.

According to him, the government’s humanitarian interventions have reached millions of Nigerians despite the limited visibility of the beneficiaries online.

“We have given 75,000 naira to over 10 million Nigerians across the country using the conditional cash transfer under the ministry of humanitarian affairs and poverty reduction,” Yilwatda said.

He argued that the absence of the beneficiaries from social media should not be interpreted as evidence that government interventions were not reaching poor Nigerians.

Yilwatda said the Tinubu administration had introduced several measures aimed at reducing the impact of economic hardship associated with the removal of fuel subsidy.

He listed road construction, employment generated through infrastructure projects and student loans among the initiatives of the administration.

The APC chairman said the Federal Government was constructing roads across the country while workers engaged in the projects were being paid.

His claim comes amid continued scrutiny of the government’s conditional cash transfer programme, particularly over the number of beneficiaries and the amount disbursed.

In August, the Minister of Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Reduction, Bernard Doro, disclosed that the government had distributed more than N600 billion in cash transfers over three years, reaching slightly more than 10 million households.

Former Vice-President Atiku Abubakar subsequently questioned discrepancies in the government’s reported beneficiary figures and called for greater transparency and accountability in the programme.

Speaking on the outcome of the APC retreat, Yilwatda said the party had reviewed its activities and structures from the national level down to states, local governments, wards and polling units ahead of the 2027 general elections.

He said the exercise was designed to assess the party’s preparedness and identify areas requiring further attention.

According to him, the APC National Executive Council also passed a vote of confidence in President Bola Tinubu, Vice-President Kashim Shettima and other party candidates who emerged from the 2027 primaries.

Yilwatda said the party had also resolved to strengthen reconciliation efforts across its state chapters, directing chapters yet to establish reconciliation committees to do so.

He said the initiative was aimed at resolving internal disagreements and strengthening the party’s structures ahead of the elections.

The APC chairman added that the party leadership would play an active role in communicating the Tinubu administration’s programmes and achievements to Nigerians during its electioneering activities.

He said the NEC commended Nigerians for their support and appealed for continued backing for Tinubu’s re-election bid in 2027.

The party also expressed condolences to the government and people of Niger State over the deaths of 37 miners.
