Terrible time to introduce E-levy – Perez Musik

Ghanaian Gospel musician Perez Musik has disclosed that the timing of the E-levy introduction is wrong.

During an interview on Hitz FM, the ‘Blema Tessa’ hitmaker said that the government can humanly handle the proposed E-levy because times are hard.

“I think it (E-Levy) can be handled in a different way, or the government can go about it in a more human way cause times are hard and I think the timing is wrong. The timing to introduce such a levy is wrong,” he said.

According to him, the tax scheme is not favourable because mobile money has become a day to day means of transacting business and part of the Ghanaian populace.

“Mobile money has become part of our lives… I think it’s going to break the flow. A lot of people are going to lose interest in it, and it’s going to actually cause the government more. Because a lot of people will stop using it (momo) for their transactions, and they would go back to the default way of doing business,” he added.

He, therefore, suggested that government should take a second look at the introduction of the E-levy before implementing it.

“Probably they could take their time. We’ve not gotten there yet. I don’t think the average Ghanaian has gotten to the point where he should be taxed on E-transactions. That’s my opinion,” Perez Musik concluded.
