Nigeria’s Super Eagles have arrived in Bissau ahead of their second Group L fixture in the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations qualifying campaign.

The Nigerian side travelled to Guinea-Bissau on Sunday after beginning their qualification journey with a 2-1 victory over Madagascar in Uyo. The Eagles had to recover from an early setback after Ehsan Kari put Madagascar ahead in the 16th minute.

Nigeria eventually turned the match around through debutant George Ilenikhena and Moses Usor, who scored in separate halves to secure all three points for Eric Chelle’s team.

The opening match was not without difficulty, as Madagascar’s defensive approach made it challenging for Nigeria to create clear opportunities. Goalkeeper Stanley Nwabali also played an important role, producing a key second-half save to prevent Rayan Raveloson from extending Madagascar’s advantage before Usor completed the comeback.

Following a closed training session on Sunday morning, the Eagles left for the airport in the afternoon before travelling to Bissau.

Their hosts also enter the encounter with three points after Guinea-Bissau defeated Tanzania 2-0 in their opening Group L game. The result placed the Djurtus at the top of the standings on goal difference.

Nigeria and Guinea-Bissau have previously faced each other during the 2023 AFCON qualifiers, with both teams winning away from home. Guinea-Bissau won 1-0 in Abuja, while Nigeria secured a 1-0 victory in Bissau.

Chelle is expected to oversee another training session in Bissau on Monday before Tuesday’s match at Estádio 24 de Setembro, scheduled for 5pm Nigerian time.
