The Allied Peoples Movement (APM) has accused President Bola Tinubu of lacking the capacity to develop and implement an effective strategy to tackle Nigeria’s worsening insecurity, urging Nigerians to support its 2027 presidential candidate, Governor Seyi Makinde of Oyo State.

The party, in a statement issued on Saturday by its National Publicity Secretary, Abubakar Yusuf, said the country could not afford another four years under what it described as an “incompetent” Tinubu administration.

Yusuf said Makinde possessed the leadership capacity and a comprehensive “blueprint” required to confront insecurity and address other challenges facing the country.

The APM spokesperson’s remarks came against the backdrop of recent comments by the Minister of Defence, Christopher Musa, who said Nigeria’s security situation had improved under the Tinubu administration.

Musa, speaking during an interview on Channels Television on Thursday, said terrorist attacks were no longer as rampant as previously witnessed, adding that troops were increasingly entering terrorists’ hideouts to rescue victims.

However, the APM rejected the minister’s assessment, accusing the Federal Government of being either disconnected from the realities confronting Nigerians or deliberately downplaying the country’s security challenges.

According to Yusuf, the true test of the government’s claim of improved security would be for President Tinubu, the defence minister and other senior government officials to travel by road without the protection of armed security personnel.

“If the security situation has truly improved as the administration claims, the APM challenges the President, the Minister of Defence, and other senior officials of the Tinubu Presidency to travel by road without armed security details as other Nigerians must do,” he said.

Yusuf maintained that insecurity remained a major threat to Nigerians, arguing that the Tinubu administration had failed to demonstrate the strategic capacity required to contain it.

“In any case, it is clear that insecurity is festering under President Tinubu because he lacks the capacity to develop and operate a blueprint to tackle and contain the challenge,” he said.

The party further declared that Nigeria “cannot survive another four years” under the present administration, while urging citizens not to lose hope ahead of the 2027 general election.

The APM subsequently positioned Makinde as its preferred alternative, describing the Oyo governor as “the people’s candidate” and claiming that he was prepared with a blueprint to tackle insecurity and other socioeconomic challenges.

Yusuf urged Nigerians to remain resolute in their determination to effect a change of government in 2027, saying the Tinubu administration would end on May 29, 2027.
