The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has affirmed Olooye Adegboyega Taofeek Adegoke as the governorship candidate of the African Democratic Congress in Oyo State ahead of the 2027 election.

INEC displayed Adegoke’s Form EC9, containing the particulars of the party’s nominated governorship candidate, at midnight on Saturday, alongside the names of candidates fielded by other political parties for the 2027 governorship elections.

The publication was in line with the commission’s timetable for the 2027 general elections, which provides for the display of governorship candidates submitted by political parties on August 29, 2026.

The development is expected to end the controversy over who represents the ADC in the Oyo governorship race, following conflicting claims over the party’s authentic candidate.

Adegoke’s media team, reacting to the INEC publication, said there had been no doubt within the campaign that their principal was the legitimate candidate of the ADC in the state.

“We know our principal, Olooye Adegoke, went through the governorship primaries of the ADC which was duly supervised by INEC and came top to emerge as the Oyo State Governorship Candidate of the party,” the team said.

It added that the commission’s display of his name should “put to rest” claims by another aspirant to the party’s governorship ticket.

“We therefore urge all other aspirants and their supporters to desist forthwith from any further misrepresentations and to respect the decision of the party and the position of INEC,” the team said.

The campaign team further described the ADC as committed to providing what it called credible leadership and good governance in Oyo State, while portraying Adegoke as a tested leader with the capacity and experience to rebuild the state.

It appealed to ADC members and supporters to remain calm and united as the party begins mobilisation for the election.

“We call on our members, supporters, and the good people of Oyo State to remain calm, united, and focused as we mobilise ahead of the elections,” the team added.

The governorship election is scheduled for Saturday, February 6, 2027, in Oyo and 27 other states, while elections into the State Houses of Assembly will be conducted across the 36 states.
