Atletico Madrid Cruise Past Sevilla With Ademola Lookman On Scoresheet
Ademola Lookman was on target once again as Atletico Madrid put on a dominant display to sweep aside Sevilla 3-1 in Saturday’s LaLiga clash.
Diego Simeone’s side wasted no time asserting themselves, breaking the deadlock inside four minutes when Alex Baena converted a well-placed pass from Kang-In Lee to hand the visitors an early lead.
The Nigerian international then extended Atletico’s advantage in the 26th minute, showing composure inside the box as he latched onto a pass from Pablo Barrios and slotted it coolly into the bottom-left corner.
It capped a lively outing for Lookman, who had already troubled Sevilla’s backline with a blocked effort from range earlier in the half.
Atletico continued to dominate proceedings, with Baena grabbing his second goal of the afternoon in the 33rd minute, curling home a superb strike from just outside the area to make it 3-0 heading into the interval.
Sevilla showed more purpose after the restart and pulled one back in the 66th minute through Miguel Sierra, who was quickest to react and bundle in a loose ball inside the penalty area.
Shortly afterwards, Lookman’s involvement in the match came to an end as Simeone opted to bring on Arnau Ortiz, reshaping his side’s attacking approach.
Before making way, the forward thought he had netted a second of his own, only for the effort to be chalked off for offside, while another attempt from distance was also blocked.
Despite Sevilla’s improved second-half showing, they were unable to find a way back into the contest, as Atletico saw out the remainder of the game comfortably to claim all three points on the road.
