Gold Coast customers hit streets today over locked-up funds

Aggrieved customers of the defunct Gold Coast Fund Management are set to demonstrate in Accra today over the continued delay in the payment of their outstanding locked-up investments.

The customers are expected to assemble at the forecourt of the Ebenezer Presbyterian Church at Osu before marching to the Jubilee House, where they intend to present a petition to President John Dramani Mahama.

The protest follows the failure of the 2026 Mid-Year Budget Review to make provision for the full settlement of outstanding claims owed to the affected investors.

Ahead of the budget review, the customers had appealed to the government to allocate adequate funds to settle all remaining claims, saying the prolonged delay had subjected many of them to severe financial difficulties.

Convener of the Aggrieved Customers of Gold Coast Fund Management, Mr Charles Nyame, has urged all affected investors to participate in the demonstration to intensify pressure on the government to release their funds.

The group has also invited customers of other financial institutions affected by the financial sector clean-up to join the protest.

Organisers say the demonstration will be peaceful, with buses arranged to transport participants from Osu to the Jubilee House.

Gold Coast Fund Management, which was later renamed Blackshield Fund Management, was among the financial institutions whose licences were revoked during the financial sector clean-up.

Although the government has made payments to customers of some collapsed financial institutions under the claims settlement programme, Gold Coast customers maintain that substantial amounts owed to them remain unpaid.

The protesters are therefore seeking renewed government action, including a clear timeline for the settlement of the outstanding claims, to bring an end to what they describe as years of waiting for their investments.
