Francis Odega Blasts Modern Nollywood: “One Script Now Makes Seven Bad Films”

Veteran Nollywood actor Francis Odega has voiced strong criticism of the modern Nigerian film industry. In a recent appearance on the “Where Is the Lie” podcast by First Mate Multimedia, he described a sharp decline in quality compared to earlier decades.
Odega, a pioneer who helped shape Nollywood, explained that one solid script once produced a single memorable and impactful movie. Today, he said, producers stretch the same script into multiple parts, often resulting in seven or even ten weak films. This approach, he argued, has stripped the industry of its original storytelling essence, even as technical production has advanced.
The veteran actor revealed he has stopped watching Nollywood movies altogether because of these changes. His candid remarks, which went viral in early March 2026, have resonated with many fans who share nostalgia for the golden era and express concern over the flood of rushed, formulaic content dominating platforms today.
