Champions League: UEFA Announces September 2 Squad Registration Deadline
UEFA has set September 2, 2026, as the deadline for clubs to submit their List A squads for the 2026/27 Champions League league phase.
The European football governing body said clubs must send their final lists to UEFA, with the submissions also requiring verification and approval from the relevant national associations.
The deadline is 23:59 CET on Wednesday, September 2.
Under the competition regulations, each club can register a maximum of 25 players on List A for the tournament. At least two of those places must be occupied by goalkeepers.
UEFA has also maintained rules concerning locally trained players. Of the 25 available positions, at least eight are reserved for players who qualify as locally trained under the competition regulations.
The governing body explained that no more than four of those eight places can be occupied by association-trained players.
This means clubs must carefully balance their squads to meet the required criteria before submitting their final lists.
Teams that do not have eight eligible locally trained players will not be allowed to fill those unused positions with other players. Instead, their maximum List A squad size will be reduced accordingly.
The registration deadline could have an important impact on clubs still completing their transfer business.
Teams with new arrivals will need to consider whether those players can be included within their available squad places while also complying with UEFA’s locally trained-player requirements.
With the Champions League league phase approaching, clubs across Europe now have limited time to finalise their squads and ensure all registration requirements are met before the September 2 deadline.
