Voting for the 2026 Ballon d’Or has officially come to an end, with journalists from countries across the world now having submitted their choices for this year’s prestigious football awards.

For the men’s prize, the voting process was conducted by a panel of journalists representing the top 100 nations in the FIFA rankings. Their votes will determine who succeeds as the next Ballon d’Or winner when the award ceremony takes place later this year.

Among the players regarded as leading contenders for the men’s honour are Barcelona forward Lamine Yamal, Bayern Munich striker Harry Kane, Real Madrid star Kylian Mbappe and Barcelona midfielder Rodri.

The women’s award followed a similar voting process, although the jury was made up of 50 journalists representing the top 50 countries in the FIFA rankings.

Manchester City forward Khadija ‘Bunny’ Shaw and former Barcelona midfielder Alexia Putellas are among the players listed as leading candidates for the women’s prize. Putellas has since moved from Barcelona to London City Lionesses.

The winners will be revealed at the 2026 Ballon d’Or ceremony scheduled to take place in London, United Kingdom, on October 26.

With voting now completed, attention will shift to the final announcement as football supporters wait to discover who will take home the individual honours.

The organisers are expecting a closely contested outcome, with the men’s award in particular attracting considerable attention because of the strong group of players in contention this year.
