The Nigeria Premier Football League has rescheduled the matchday two clash between Sporting Lagos and Ikorodu City following a change of plans at the original venue.

The Lagos derby, initially fixed for Sunday, September 6 at Mobolaji Johnson Arena in Onikan, has now been moved to Wednesday, September 30.

League organisers cited political activities scheduled to hold at the venue on the original matchday as the reason for the postponement.

According to the NPFL, further information regarding kickoff time and venue confirmation for the rearranged fixture will be communicated at a later date.

The announcement brings clarity for supporters of both clubs, who had been eager to see the derby unfold as an early gauge of form for the new season. The clash carries extra significance given how both teams started their campaigns.

Sporting Lagos suffered a 2-0 defeat to Doma United in their season opener, while Ikorodu City also began on a losing note, going down 3-1 to Ranchers Bees.

Both sides will therefore see the rescheduled derby as an opportunity to bounce back and get their first points of the season on the board.

With nearly a month’s gap before the new date, both clubs will have extra time to work on their form and address the issues that led to their opening-day losses.
