Mohammed Kudus returns from injury in Tottenham defeat to Newcastle

SAT, 29 AUG 2026

Ghana midfielder Mohammed Kudus made his long-awaited return from injury as Tottenham Hotspur suffered a 2-0 home defeat to Newcastle United in the Premier League on Saturday.

The 26-year-old came off the bench in the 68th minute, replacing Mathys Tel, and played 22 minutes at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.

Kudus completed 11 of his 13 passes, had one shot blocked and recorded 24 touches during his cameo appearance. He also completed his only dribble attempt and made two ball recoveries.

The Ghana international had been sidelined since January after sustaining a knee injury in a match against Sunderland. Although he was initially expected to return in April, a setback during his rehabilitation prolonged his absence.

His injury lay-off lasted seven months, causing him to miss 25 matches in all competitions for Spurs and ruling him out of Ghana’s squad for the 2026 FIFA World Cup.

Tottenham’s defeat was their second successive loss of the new season, having opened the campaign with a 3-0 setback against Brentford at the Gtech Community Stadium.

Kudus will hope to build his fitness and feature again when Spurs travel to face Nottingham Forest next weekend.
