The Ghana Tertiary Education Commission (GTEC) has cautioned the public against enrolling in programmes or accepting certificates from 100 institutions it says are not currently recognised by the Commission.

GTEC said the institutions had been flagged over various quality assurance concerns and urged prospective students, employers and other members of the public to verify the recognition status of institutions before enrolling in their programmes or relying on qualifications they issue.

In a statement issued on Friday, August 28, 2026, the Commission advised the public to exercise due diligence when dealing with certificates from the listed institutions.

The institutions named by GTEC include both local and foreign-based entities operating in countries such as the United States, United Kingdom, India, Switzerland, Nigeria, Zambia and Mexico.

Among the Ghana-based institutions on the list are Debest College of Science, Arts and Business, Faith University Seminary, Doxa Open University, Electrical and Mechanical Engineering Training School, Quest International University, Kingdom Living Bible Institute in Kumasi, Global Professional College in Effiduase, OAA Consulting Limited in Kumasi, Competency School of Business Administration (COSBA) and Global Executive College.

Foreign institutions listed include Universidad Azteca in Mexico, Indian School of Management and Studies, Atlantic International University in the United States, Universidad Empresarial de Costa Rica, Monarch Business School in Switzerland, London Academy of Technology and Management, and Swiss School of Business and Management.

The Commission also identified a number of institutions offering theological and religious programmes, including Rhema Bible Training College, Louisiana Baptist University & Seminary, Trinity Graduate School of Apologetics and Theology, American Bible University and Global Theological University.

GTEC’s warning comes amid concerns about the credibility and recognition of academic qualifications obtained from institutions whose accreditation or recognition status has not been established.

The Commission urged members of the public to conduct appropriate checks before enrolling in programmes offered by institutions whose regulatory status is unclear.

It stressed that the institutions listed in its statement are not currently recognised by GTEC and advised the public to treat certificates issued by them with caution.
