Manchester City boss Enzo Maresca has settled on his leadership group for the new season, naming four players who will share captaincy duties at the club.

The chosen quartet consists of defender Ruben Dias, star striker Erling Haaland, recent signing Marc Guehi, and goalkeeper Gianluigi Donnarumma.

Maresca’s decision to spread the armband across four players comes in the wake of two notable exits from the squad this summer.

Bernardo Silva, one of City’s long-serving midfielders, departed on a free transfer to join Real Madrid, while Rodri, another key figure in the team’s recent success, completed a switch to Barcelona in a deal worth £60 million.

Their departures left a leadership void that Maresca has now addressed by distributing captaincy responsibilities among the four named players.

News of the appointments was confirmed publicly by transfer insider Fabrizio Romano, who took to social media platform X to share the official list of City’s new captains, naming Dias, Haaland, Guehi and Donnarumma in that order.

On the pitch, City have made a solid start to their Premier League campaign, picking up victories in both of their opening fixtures against Bournemouth and Crystal Palace.

That form has propelled Maresca’s side to the summit of the table, though they currently sit above Arsenal only on goal difference, highlighting just how tightly contested the early stages of the season have been.

With the captaincy structure now in place, attention turns to whether this leadership group can help City maintain their strong start and build a title challenge as the campaign progresses.
