Deputy Minority Leader and Member of Parliament for Asokwa, Patricia Appiagyei, has denied authoring a memorandum alleging that she received and returned GH¢70,000 in connection with the vetting of ministerial and Supreme Court nominees.

In a statement dated September 4, 2026, Appiagyei described the document circulating in the media as fake and urged the public to disregard it.

The alleged memo, purportedly addressed to Minority Chief Whip Frank Annoh-Dompreh, reportedly claimed that the Asokwa MP had received and returned the money during the vetting process. Appiagyei said she neither wrote, authorised nor circulated the document.

“I did not receive any payment of GH¢70,000, or any other sum, from any person in connection with the vetting of ministerial or Supreme Court nominees,” she said.

Appiagyei, who served on the Appointments Committee, said she had carried out her duties with integrity and had no reason to return money because she had not received any payment.

She said she initially believed a “FAKE” stamp placed on the circulating document would be sufficient to address the matter, but the claim later gained prominence in the media.

The Deputy Minority Leader said she was seeking legal advice and reserved the right to take action against anyone found responsible for fabricating or knowingly circulating the document.

She further alleged that the publication was intended to create discord within the Minority Caucus, but maintained that the caucus would remain united behind the National Democratic Congress’s flagbearer, Dr Mahamudu Bawumia, ahead of the 2028 election.

The authenticity and origin of the alleged memorandum could not be independently verified at the time of publication.
