Chukwueze Embraces New Role As Amorim Hands Him Fresh Milan Opportunity
Samuel Chukwueze appears set for a fresh and promising chapter at AC Milan after impressing in an unfamiliar role under new manager Ruben Amorim.
The Nigerian winger was a key performer in their 4-2 pre-season victory over Manchester United, contributing a goal and two assists.
His display has strengthened the possibility that he could become an important part of Amorim’s plans this season.
Chukwueze has traditionally operated as an attacking winger, but Amorim has experimented with using him as a wing-back.
Although the position is new to the 27-year-old, he has welcomed the challenge and believes his manager’s confidence can help him succeed.
The former Villarreal player said he understands that adapting will require patience, hard work and a willingness to learn.
He also acknowledged that the Milan coaching staff have been helping him understand the tactical demands of the position.
Chukwueze returned to Milan this summer following a loan spell at Fulham. Fulham decided not to exercise the €26m option to make his transfer permanent. During his time in England, he recorded three goals and four assists in 23 league appearances.
His partnership with fellow Nigerians Alex Iwobi and Calvin Bassey also provided encouraging moments in England.
Now back in Italy, Chukwueze has an opportunity to rebuild his standing at Milan. A successful transition into his new role could give him greater responsibility within the team and help him produce his best football since joining the Rossoneri in 2023.
