CAF CL: I am confident of comeback against TP Mazembe - Medeama coach Ibrahim Tanko after first leg loss

MON, 07 SEP 2026

Medeama Sporting Club head coach Ibrahim Tanko believes his side can overturn their first-leg defeat by TP Mazembe when the two teams meet again on Sunday in the CAF Champions League preliminary round.

The Ghanaian champions suffered a 1-0 defeat at the TNA Stadium in Tarkwa on Sunday after Mazembe scored in the 88th minute to secure a crucial advantage ahead of the return leg.

Medeama created several opportunities but were unable to find the back of the net, leaving Tanko disappointed with the result.

“Of course, if you lose a home game, you’ll definitely be disappointed, and the good thing is, we created a lot of chances, and we could have scored some goals, but unfortunately, we couldn’t, and that’s football,” Tanko said after the match.

“We pushed in the second half, trying to get our goal when they got one chance to score. So definitely, I’m disappointed.

“But I mean, that’s the game; we have a second chance next Sunday to see what will happen.”

Medeama must now win in the Democratic Republic of Congo if they are to keep their Champions League campaign alive and progress to the next stage of qualifying.

The Yellow and Mauve are aiming to reach the group stage of Africa’s premier club competition for the first time since the 2022-23 season.
