Black Bombers begin preparations for USA friendly and Olympic qualifiers

Ghana’s Black Bombers have begun a new chapter under a revamped technical team, with a non-residential training camp starting at the Accra Sports Stadium on Monday ahead of key international assignments.

The camp forms part of preparations for a friendly tournament against a USA select side in Accra in October, while also laying the foundation for the 2028 Los Angeles Olympic Games boxing qualifiers next year.

A 20-man squad has been called up from clubs across the country, with Black Panthers Boxing Club contributing four fighters, the highest number of any club.

The squad also includes representatives from Wisdom Boxing Club, SeaView Boxing Club, James Town Boxing Club, FitSquare Boxing Gym, Charles Quarteyn Boxing Foundation, Will Power Boxing Gym, Seconds Out Boxing Gym, Akotoku Academy, Attoh Quarshie Boxing Gym and Square View Boxing Gym.

The selected boxers are Ebenezer Ankrah, Mathias Ashitey, Ibrahim Doku, Joseph Commey, Abdul Wahid Omar, James Okoe, Joseph Antwi, Amadu Mohammed, Daniel Nii Amu, Zakari Kamoko, Desmond Pappoe, Yekeen Abdul Khalid, Isaac Kwabena Esiedu, Jibril Muntari, George Nii Nortey Dowuona, Mubarak Armah, Dennis Dugebenu, Solomon Budu Sackey, Benjamin Ni Saka Bulley and Henry Malm.

The team’s new technical setup is led by Vincent Akai Nettey and Charles Quartey, who will oversee preparations for the upcoming fixtures.

They will be supported by assistant coaches Elvis Robertson, Ben Tetteh, Ebenezer Ofoli Quaye and Sulleyman Martey Korley as Ghana looks to build a competitive squad for future international competitions.
