Bastie Samir challenges Bukom Bankus son to $50,000 showdown

MON, 07 SEP 2026

Ghanaian boxer Bastie Samir has challenged Abubakar Kamoko, the son of Braimah “Bukom Banku” Kamoko, to a bout, saying he is prepared to fight if a promoter offers a $50,000 purse.

The 37-year-old, who famously knocked out Bukom Banku in 2017, said he has no fears about facing the unbeaten Abu Kamoko and insisted the contest would only happen under the right financial terms.

“I am hungry and coming like a wounded lion,” Samir told journalists at Timber Market in Accra during the launch of Obra Sports’ Osagyefo Fight Night.

The former Olympic boxer also referenced his victory over Bukom Banku, claiming he would repeat history against his son.

“Tell him I will beat him like I beat his father, and he has never boxed again in Ghana,” he said.

Samir stressed that boxing is a professional business and said he would only step into the ring with a signed $50,000 contract.

“We don’t just fight,” he added.
The former Ghanaian international last fought in 2025 and boasts a professional record of 22 wins, two defeats and one draw.

His opponent, Abu Kamoko, remains unbeaten after seven professional contests and is regarded as one of Ghana’s rising boxing prospects.

Both fighters enjoyed successful amateur careers before turning professional. Samir won welterweight silver at the 2007 All-Africa Games and qualified for the 2008 Olympic Games in the light-heavyweight division. He now trains under Dr Ofori Asare at Wisdom Boxing Gym.

Abu Kamoko also claimed silver at the 2023 African Games and trains at Bronx Boxing Gym under coach Carl Lokko.

Talk of a potential “Repeat or Revenge” showdown has continued to gather momentum among Ghanaian boxing fans, with growing debate over whether the two should finally settle the rivalry in the ring.
