Hakim Ziyech’s time at Wydad Casablanca has come to an end after both parties agreed to part ways, terminating his contract by mutual consent following weeks of mounting tension behind the scenes.

The Moroccan club confirmed the split in a heartfelt statement posted on social media, choosing to focus on gratitude rather than the difficulties that led to the breakup.

Wydad described Ziyech’s spell as one that, despite being shorter than anyone had hoped for, still left a meaningful and lasting impression on the club and its supporters.

In its message, the club made clear that Ziyech’s connection to Wydad extended beyond simple statistics or length of service, insisting that he would always be regarded as part of the club’s extended family regardless of how his stay ultimately unfolded.

Wydad thanked him for every moment spent representing the badge and extended well wishes for whatever comes next in his career.

Behind the warm farewell, however, lay a more complicated reality. Reports indicate that friction had been building between Ziyech and the club’s new management over financial terms, with Wydad reportedly pushing for a reduced salary while Ziyech insisted on honouring the terms of his original deal.

Matters escalated when he was omitted from a league fixture against Renaissance Zemamra and later excluded from the club’s training camp in Agadir, instead being asked to train separately away from the main squad.

At one stage, Ziyech even enlisted a bailiff to formally document his circumstances, fuelling speculation that the disagreement might end up before football’s governing authorities.

Ultimately, both sides opted to avoid a drawn-out legal battle, settling instead for an amicable exit that leaves Ziyech free to negotiate his next career move as a free agent.
