Suspected bandits have launched another attack on communities in Kano State, killing at least one person and abducting the Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Rogo Local Government Area, Alhaji Audu Fanka Salisu Yahaya.

The latest incident reportedly occurred in Beli village, Rogo LGA, in the early hours of Tuesday, marking the third consecutive day of attacks attributed to suspected bandits in parts of the state.

According to a local source who spoke on condition of anonymity, the attackers stormed the community around 1am and opened fire before heading directly to the residence of the APC chairman.

The gunmen were said to have forced their way into the house, brought Yahaya out and whisked him away to an undisclosed location.

A young resident, reportedly aged below 25, was allegedly shot dead by the attackers while they were fleeing the community. Several other residents were also said to have sustained gunshot injuries during the assault.

“They came in, firing sporadically, and went straight to the chairman’s house. They broke down the door, brought him out and took him away,” the source said.

“On their way, they shot a young man, who was not more than 25 years old, and he died instantly.”

Yahaya is reportedly a close associate of the Speaker of the Kano State House of Assembly, Jibril Ismail Falgore, who hails from Rogo Local Government Area.

Residents have also taken to social media to raise the alarm over the attack and appeal to security authorities to urgently intervene in the worsening security situation.

The Beli attack follows two separate incidents reportedly recorded in neighbouring local government areas within the past two days.

On Sunday, suspected bandits allegedly invaded Chiromawa in Garin Malam Local Government Area, killing three people and abducting an elderly resident. The victim was later reported to have escaped from captivity.

The attackers reportedly struck again on Monday night in Rantan community, Bebeji Local Government Area, where two people were allegedly killed.

The succession of attacks has heightened fears among residents of rural communities in the affected areas, with concerns growing over the ability of criminal elements to operate repeatedly across communities.

As of the time of filing this report, security agencies had not issued an official statement confirming the attack.
