New Patriotic Party (NPP) National Chairman aspirant Paul Afoko has praised the party’s vetting committee for what he described as a firm and fair exercise.

Mr Afoko said the committee, chaired by former Sanitation Minister Cecilia Dapaah, engaged him in frank discussions and posed questions that he had not anticipated.

Speaking after appearing before the committee, he said some of the questions challenged him to think on his feet and could influence how he develops his strategy for the party’s 2028 general election campaign.

“The way they pose certain questions that I had not anticipated. Some of them I definitely am going to include them in my strategy planning for the party going to 2028,” the former NPP national Chairman said.

He said he was impressed by the calibre of the committee and the manner in which the members conducted the exercise.

Mr Afoko, however, declined to disclose details of the questions, citing a confidentiality agreement he signed before the exercise.

“I signed a confidentiality document. I cannot talk about it, especially when it is going to be strategic, especially when we are going to use that strategy to try to get into power in 2028,” he said.

Asked about his chances of successfully passing the vetting, Mr Afoko expressed confidence, saying he believed he had adequately answered the questions put before him.

He rated his chances as “good” and said he had no indication during the exercise that his responses had fallen short of the committee’s expectations.

On his campaign, the NPP chairmanship aspirant said it was progressing well and that he had already undertaken several campaign tours across the country.

Mr Afoko is facing opposition from several party stalwarts including John Boadu, Sammy Crabbe and Boakye Agyarko, in the executive elections slated for October 3.
