Video: Northern Nigerian Students Trample USA and Israeli Flags in Solidarity with Iran

A viral video circulating on social media shows students in northern Nigeria marching through the streets, trampling on American and Israeli flags while chanting in solidarity with Iran.
The demonstration took place amid widespread protests organized by the Islamic Movement in Nigeria (IMN), a Shi’ite group led by Sheikh Ibraheem Zakzaky. These rallies erupted across major northern cities including Kano, Abuja, Kaduna, Bauchi, Niger, Katsina, Sokoto, and even extending to Lagos following the confirmed killing of Iran’s Supreme Leader, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, in joint US-Israeli airstrikes that began around February 28, 2026.
Protesters waved Iranian flags, carried portraits of Khamenei, and expressed grief and outrage over what they view as Western aggression against the Islamic Republic. In several locations, American and Israeli flags were dragged on the ground or burned as symbols of condemnation.
The events highlight the deep religious and ideological ties some Northern Nigerian Shi’ite communities maintain with Iran, viewing its supreme leader as a key religious and political authority. The IMN has long aligned itself with Iran’s revolutionary ideals, despite facing crackdowns from Nigerian authorities in the past.
