Amas Obasogie has been suspended for three months by the Tanzanian Premier League club Singida Black Stars SC due to allegations of match-fixing.

The club stated that this decision was made to facilitate a thorough investigation. Reports indicate that the suspension is a provisional measure, which will remain in place until the conclusion of internal and league inquiries.

“This decision was made to facilitate a thorough investigation… a necessary step to ensure transparency.”

Obasogie is not the only player facing disciplinary measures at the club, as midfielder Khalid Aucho has also received a three-month suspension. Aucho’s situation is independent of the match-fixing claims; the Ugandan player was disciplined for alleged misconduct and for missing training sessions.

Obasogie moved to Singida Black Stars last year after his contract with the Ethiopian club Fasil Kenema expired. The 26-year-old goalkeeper had been looking for a new opportunity in Tanzania after completing his tenure in Ethiopia.

The goalkeeper gained wider recognition after he was selected for the Nigerian national team during their successful pursuit of a bronze medal at the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations. While he did not serve as the primary goalkeeper, his presence in the squad represented a major achievement in his career.

This news is expected to worry Nigerian football officials, especially in light of Obasogie’s status as an international player. Allegations of match-fixing are a serious matter in the sport, and governing bodies frequently issue harsh punishments if guilt is determined.

Singida Black Stars emphasized that the suspension is not a confirmation of guilt. Instead, it serves as a necessary step to ensure the investigation remains transparent. The club will provide further updates once the process is finished.
