Ministry of Sports and Recreation has issued a formal goodwill message to Nations FC ahead of the club’s 2026-27 CAF Confederation Cup campaign, urging the FA Cup holders to carry the nation’s hopes onto the continental stage.

In a statement dated 3 September, the ministry described the Abrankese-based club’s qualification as a moment of national pride and called on the team to “make history” as it prepares to face opponents from Mali in the competition.

Nations FC, who are making their maiden appearance in the CAF elite competition, secured their place in the CAF Confederation Cup after winning the 2025-26 MTN FA Cup, earning the right to represent Ghana in Africa’s second-tier club competition.

The ministry said the club’s journey to continental football reflected its “dedication, resilience, and the unwavering support of the nation at large”.

“Having secured your place by emerging victorious in the 2025-26 MTN FA Cup, the Abrankese-based team is now set to showcase Ghanaian talent and spirit on Africa’s grand stage,” the statement said.

“This is a moment of pride, a chapter in your club’s history, and an opportunity to inspire countless fans and aspiring players across the country.”

The ministry encouraged the players to approach their opening tie with confidence while emphasising teamwork, discipline and belief in their abilities.

“As you prepare to face the Malian side, approach the match with confidence and focus,” it said.

“Trust in the hard work and preparation that have brought you this far. Believe in one another’s abilities, stay united as a team, and fight for every ball, every minute, and every inch of the pitch.”

The statement added that the occasion represented more than a football match, describing it as an opportunity to demonstrate “the true essence of Ghanaian football” to a continental audience.

The ministry also urged Nations FC to embrace the expectations that come with representing Ghana in African competition.

“As you step onto the continental stage, carry with you the hopes of millions who believe in your potential,” it said.

“Let your courage, tactical discipline, and passion shine through. This is your moment to make history, to elevate Ghana’s reputation in African football.”

The message concluded with a rallying call for the club to “lift our flag high” and “show the world what Ghanaian football is all about”.

The goodwill message was signed by Bagbara Tanko, Head of Public Relations and Communications, on behalf of the Minister for Sports and Recreation.

Nations FC will come up against FC Diarra in the first leg of the CAF Confederation Cup preliminary round in Bamako before hosting the Malian side next week.
